The problem is that the people who are controlling the system right now will never want to give up on their outrageous profits, and I am not sure states are strong enough right now to force them into adopting a different system.
As it stands now, corporations are pretty much more powerful than states economically, and the stock market is cuffing states into submission with grading agencies and debts.
Basically, either the financial system implodes first, or states actually decide to take radical action first. In both cases a pretty chaotic and unpleasant period of time should arise.
The unpleasantness will probably last shorter if states take matter into their hands, though, rather than waiting for the collapse.
Or maybe we're both crazy, I don't know.
