****Please read before cursing me for 5 generations!****

I'll explain this completely and throughly. Feel free to curse me AFTER understanding why I did this. =p

On french television in 1984, french singer Serge Gainsbourg burned a 500 francs (french currency before the euro) bill on TV. You can see this here : [link]

He didn't burned the bill to protest against money itself.
It was to protest again the fact that the taxes he paid were used to buy nuclear power plants and weapons, instead of helping the poor.

Following his example, I burned this Naruto card.
Not to protest against Naruto itself, but to protest against the oversized fandom that surrounds it.

I used myself to watch Naruto. I watched almost 100 episodes before quitting. It IS a good shonen. Kishimoto sure has a sense for action scenes, and even if the scenario is pretty basic, it still improves the good old "Dragon ball" formula with nice new concepts.
I'm not really a shonen guy, so I gave up when it began to run in circles. But I sure understand people who like the show.

What I don't understand is people that summarize anime to Naruto, or at least to shonen.
It can be understandable for young teenagers who discover anime and aren't mature enough for other, more intelligent stuff like ghost in the shell.
But when people who are 20 or more become "only Naruto" or "only Shonen", that depresses me.

Japan has a very wide production of anime. It goes from things to little kids to things for adults.
You are meant to use anime as a way to evolve, not as a way to remain forever in an illusion of childhood.

I DO watch some "teenagers" anime sometimes when I want to have fun. Kinda like people who go see transformers in movie theaters : it is a movie where you want to see impressive actions and eyecandy, nothing else.
And I still enjoy stupid fanservice anime where the only interest is to see the heroines in fancy and revealing costumes, and watch the nudes during the transformation sequences.

But I don't reduce anime to this. And I always try to discover new things. And especially things that will bring me something new and make me a more complete human being.

I wish I could spread this attitude. That's why I attack the symbol of blind fanboyism : Naruto.

Ok, now you can curse me if you want. =p

******************

Thanks to my sister :icongally-elo: for taking the picture. I then played with photoshop on it to make it more appealing.

Yes, that's me, on this. I guess I look like my caricature.

My sister is also responsible for this picture, because she is the one who won Naruto trading cards at a cosplay contest. She asked me if I wanted them, and I answered "Maybe to start a fire".
And then we looked at each other in a stupid way, our faces showing "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" and here is the result.
You can take a look at her cosplay in her DA gallery [link] or here [link]

Something tell me this picture will give me many friends, but also many enemies.

I myself like Naruto, but the fandom is quite ridiculous. Especially the over obsessed fangirls. They scare me. e-e; It also makes me sad whenever I see really good artists that do nothing but Naruto fanart...Their art is good, but it's never completely "theirs" Know what I mean?

Completely.

Here is a very good example :

I used to be a fan of Kaze-hime's work (a famous artist on DA). She made nice pictures of magical creatures (fairies, kitsunes...). They were beautiful and original. I really enjoyed her art.
But then she started Naruto fan art. And for me, from that day, she no longer was the artist I used to love. She just became like everyone else.
Even if her pictures remains beautiful, she is not a real artist anymore, at least to my eyes. And I stopped watching her.

I draw wings because I believe people have the power to fly. I draw them on half-naked girls because I believe I'm a pervert.
:iconhana-ai509:
Hmm... yes. I think Kaze-Hime's stuff is absolutely gorgeous, but the whole Naruto thing...it's just plain annoying. Another reason is well, let me tell you a story.

So, I have this friend on Da. Now, she's got some pretty good skills on art, and I bet she could get very popular. But...she's not. So, she has a friend ( :icondannex09 ) Now, Dannex09 is pretty good at drawing, too, but not quite as good as my friend (it is an opinion, though...). My friend has only about 20,000 pageviews. Dannex09 has almost 300,000. Why? Because all he draws is NaruHina fanart.

It makes me so mad that the only ways you can get popular on Da is if you just draw fanart, or the mainstream "Kawaii Desu Ne" shiny stuff. Augh...*it feels good to vent*

I could not agree anymore.

The worst is that fanartists then believe they are artists because of their many pageviews...
As I already said several times in journal/comments, I work in a comic school as computer network administrator.
There are quite a lot of students there who are fanboys, and have absolutely no hope as real authors. But they still come at comic school because they believe they are.
I sure am sad for their parents who pay them expensive art studies when they have no talent whatsoever...

:iconhana-ai509:
Ahaha...poor parents. I admit, though, I've gotten some inspiration from Naruto for my story. But I can easily find better ideas by looking at the better artists on Da.*note: this doesn't mean I copy*
But those fanboys should really get it into their thick heads that they need to create their own story, not a retarded Naruto spin off. Do they have any idea what originallity is? I've been working on a story for four months, not too long, but for most of the time I've spent on the story, I've been working on originallity...but I bet I'm boring you with my rambling. Sorry..^^;
