It's traditional manga with ink and screen tones.
Screen tones are so expensive I don't think I'll use them again, though.

they are expensive and I have some really small screen tones that came with a kit that was bought for me but you can make the screen tones yourself.

I know. But it's not really worth it to not use the computer for screen tones altogether, especially when you're comfortable with handling software.

I know but I was talking about you can make your own screen tones by hand I learned that in one of my art classes.

BTW, what steps do you take to draw like this? Do you have to do anything special?

I'm 100% self-taught, but I'll say books and tutorials definitely should be used and abused. Despite what some will say, there are some good books out there that will teach you things you won't find online. And that includes those often criticized "how to draw manga" books. I'll admit that most are horrible cash-ins, but some are genuinely instructive with useful tips.

I'd also recommend to try to copy live photography to learn to draw the body, rather than trying to copy your favorite manga artists. Because :
1.proportions are actually often wrong in manga, even if it is not by much. Depending on who your model artist is, it could give you very wrong habits without you even realizing it.
2.converting a photo to a simplified form (manga style or not) by yourself actually helps in building your own style better. You are the one who have to think up how to symplify something complex in reality with just a few lines. Of course, you can pick up tricks from manga artists sometimes, but trying to figure things on your own sometimes will usually make your work more unique.

There are a lot of photographs sharing their work for free on DA, it's pretty much a blessing and the reason I created an account in the first place before I had confidence enough in my art to start to show it. Download a bunch of those and start sketching! (plus it gives an excuse to look at beautiful naked people ;) )
Once you know how a real body looks like, you can start taking some liberty with it. But knowing how an actual human body is made will allow you to remain subtle about your voluntary anatomy changes so they feel natural/appropriate.

But in the end, it is mostly patience. Even if you don't use my method, drawing better will mostly boil down to many years of keeping up with practice.

Oh, and I have a final advice : having your own imagination is a key to perseverance. If you are motivated only by fandom/fanart, it will burn out eventually and you'll most likely give up on drawing someday.
I know there are some infamous exceptions to what I just said on the Internets. but those guys who draw fanart for 7 years usually aren't taken very seriously as artists, so they should not be a model for anyone.

Cool, thanks, I'll try what you say. :)

I got the head style down though. It's kind of similar to yours.

I'm honored, but remember, head is the easy part. ^^;

I know what you mean. I always have a hard time with the rest of the body.
